Up until this point I have always thought that my political views are not to be shared with the world. There are many reasons for this kind of thinking: potential employers could judge me based on my views; people I know might be offended or think less of me; perhaps no one really cares (dearest reader). These reasons are all rooted in fears of being judged. Lately I have decided that I can no longer allow fear to prevent me from speaking my mind publicly.
I have always pondered the philosophy of politics. I have considered political ideas such as utilitarianism, socialism, and personal liberty. I see now that these sorts of concepts need to be expressed in terms of specific circumstances to effect beneficial change in the real world.
There is a great deal wrong with the world we live in. Sometimes it is hard to see; sometimes it is not. My goal in writing this blog is not only to present readers with my own views but to spur you to develop your own political ideas and to take action on them. I have always felt overwhelmed in the face of the vast ills of this world, so I take up this project in an effort to do my own part to rectify the problems of the world. Perhaps it is true that, as they say, "The pen is mightier than the sword."
